Evansville, Indiana- Kenneth J. “Kenny” Stokes, 75, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 11:16 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab in Mt. Vernon, Indiana.
Kenny was born on October 6, 1948 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Kenneth E. and Chloe Ellen (Roby) Stokes. He married Regina Lynn Richey on October 3, 1967 in Marion, Illinois. She survives in Evansville.
Kenny attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale before enlisting in the United States Air Force and serving bravely as Military security during Vietnam. Once honorably discharged, he returned home and began a long career in sales for Mine Safety and Supply Company. He sold mine safety equipment and concrete and rebar until he retired at age 62.
He was civically active as a longtime member of the VFW Post #1114 in Evansville, Indiana. He was a Christian and a former member of West Side Christian Church in Evansville. He also coached his son and daughters baseball and softball teams when they were young. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling with his family and in leagues, golfing with his buddies (he had a hole in one) and shooting pool at the VFW Hall. He most enjoyed time with his wife and family and will be dearly missed.
Kenny is survived by his beloved wife- Jeanne Stokes of Evansville, daughter- Kerri Jo Hill and companion Bobby Oldham of Evansville, son Kenneth B. Stokes and wife Jill of Evansville; three grandchildren- Addison and Austin Hill and Emily Stokes all of Evansville, Sisters- Nancy Dennis of Marion, Illinois and Susie Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, sister-in-law- Patty Cox and husband Dave of Herrin, Illinois as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, Illinois. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery beginning at 10:30 AM. Lt. Col Tyson Mele will officiate. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin and Carterville American Legion and VFW Posts with assistance from the Military Honor Guard from the United States Air Force at Scott AFB. Inurnment will follow. Memorial arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home in Herrin, Illinois.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the incredible caregivers at Parkview Nursing and Rehab in Evansville, Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab in Mt. Vernon and Gentiva Hospice of Evansville.
