Herrin- Irl Wilson Eaton, Jr., 74, of Herrin, passed away at 8:48 AM, Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Herrin Hospital.
Irl was born on July 29, 1949 in Harvey, IL to Irl W. and Jeanne (Urvan) Eaton, Sr. He married his beloved wife Rebecca “Becky” French on July 30, 1971 at Herrin First Baptist Church.
He was a hardworking man who began his career as an electrician and machine mechanic in local coal mines. He also worked many years as a printer at Herrin News Lithographers and recently retired from Marion Ford, where he worked the last 18 years with his son and brother. He was a member and former trustee at Herrin First Baptist Church and member of Herrin’s Prairie Masonic Lodge #693. Irl loved to help others with home projects and volunteer his time when needed. When he was able, he liked to spend time outdoors and hunt deer and turkey when time allowed. He was a proud supporter of the Herrin Tiger’s. He most loved spending time with his family, friends, and dogs.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca Eaton, son- Daniel W. Eaton, daughter- Jennifer L. Eaton, grandchildren- Callie Rain Heard and Jackson Dean Heard all of Herrin; sister- Nancy Letson of Salamanca, NY, brothers- Lawrence Eaton and wife Deby of Energy, Robert Eaton and wife Char Lynn Bennett-Eaton of Covington, TN, Donald Eaton of Herrin, Richard Eaton of Herrin and John Eaton and wife Cindy of Thompsonville. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, who called him Uncle Junior, and beloved dogs- “Bullwinkle”, Lucy”, “Kayla” and “Murphy” as well as grand dogs- “Cate” and “Champ”.
Irl was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law- Yvonne and Charlie Groves.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Herrin First Baptist Church/ 1500 South 13th St./ Herrin, IL 62948. Pastor Mark Goldman will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Herrin First Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Services in Herrin.
