Herrin- Evelyn Pearl Keel, 77, of Herrin, passed away at 7:49 PM, Friday, December 1, 2023 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was born on November 9, 1946 in Herrin to Homer and Betty (Sanders) Meadows. She married Larry E. Keel on January 22, 1966 at the Herrin First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2012.
Evelyn was a hardworking woman and worked 58 years as a beautician in the Herrin area. She currently worked at Charisma II in Herrin and before that she worked many years at Kathy’s Kut and Kurl also in Herrin.
She was a Christian woman who enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren and two sons as well as her companion and close friend- Bob Adams of Cobden. She enjoyed going out dancing with Bob and playing cards with her friends and listening to oldies from the 50’s and 60’s. She was a great cook and known for her homemade raviolis. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her beloved sons- Troy Keel and wife Kathy of Herrin and Chad Keel and wife Jeanette of Herrin; grandchildren- Wade, Whitney, Karley, Colten, Megan and Chad; sister- Pat Magnotti of Herrin, brother Bruce Meadows and wife Sandra of St. Louis; sister-in-law and brother in law- Melodie and Jeff Church of Carterville; several nieces and nephews including- Terri, Wendi, Colby, Courtney and Carmen as well as many cousins and close friends. Also surviving is her loyal little dog- “Sugar”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother-in-laws- Doug Magnotti and Bill Keel.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Lone Oak Baptist Church/ 809 Ryan Drive/ Energy, IL 62933. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at Lone Oak Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Services in Herrin.
